Seems Like Old Times

Ah, Opening Night. A great way to start the season, wasn't it? Glavine seemed to be in nice form (was Pujols impressed, I wonder?), and notched himself a win. Alou, Joe "Mr. Anonymous" Smith, and Hello, Newhan made successful Mets debuts. Alou made a nice diving catch, Smith struck out Mookie's kid on three pitches, and then walked Pujols on four. Newhan came up with a pinch hit single. Sweet. The sportswriters are coming after Randolph for pitching Smith in a big spot, but hey, what do we have him on the roster for? Mets beat the Cardinals, 6-1 in the first game of the season.

It was so nice to have baseball back that listening to Jon Miller and Joe Morgan's inane commentary didn't even bother me that much. How could I be irritated while watching the impressive glovework by Reyes, Valentin, and Alou, or while seeing BelTRON and LoDuca nail Eckstein at the plate?

Offensively, Delgado, LoDuca, Beltran and even Green contributed nicely. Green had two hits - I wonder when Milledge will get his first start? Perhaps Friday in Atlanta, against lefty Mark Redman?

Ah... baseball is back.
