Transplanted Ex-Mets Around Baseball

Atlanta beat San Diego today, 2-0, as John Smoltz pitched a complete-game shutout for the Braves. For San Diego, our old friend Mike Piazza went 1-4 with a single and a strikeout, and is now hitting .226 on the season. Mike Cameron is recovering from his strained quad and should be back with the club sometime next week. Dave Magadan (remember him?), the Padres hitting coach, said Cameron "looked good" in his rehab work.

The Angels lost to the Orioles, 3-2. I only note this game because it was sad to see that Edgardo Alfonzo went 0 for 3, and is still hitless in 8 at bats this season. He's a free agent at the end of the season and is still hoping to land a starting job somewhere. Fonzie is a class act and I hope he can revive his career.

The Cardinals beat up on the Reds, 9-3. Braden Looper helped the cause with a perfect 8th inning.

Marco Scutaro had three hits and an RBI today, helping the A's beat the Rangers, 5-4. He's hitting .350 on the season so far.

Finally, Ty Wigginton helped the Devil Rays beat the Royals, 6-3. Ty had 3 RBI's in the win, and he's now got 4 HR's and 11 RBI's for the season. He's getting some playing time because Aubrey Huff is injured. Doug Mientkiewicz went 1 for 4 with a double in the loss for Kansas City and is now hitting .258 on the season.
